AMD bought ATI

Adrian von Bidder asked that question on debian-curiosa and stated he would like to see it on planet, but for technical reasons hasn't his blog there:

I just read that AMD bought ATI. Is AMD better in terms of Linux support than ATI? Does anybody have contacts inside AMD or ATI who might be able to influence management to change the policy wrt open source graphics drivers now that the company has changed hands?

Feel free to join the discussion on the list.

BTW: I'm back :)

Semi-Vacation was good; I feel much better now!

Here is a good tip for you: If you ever feel a bit burned out, consider most discussions as pointless and most communication partners as clueless, take a break! Take some days off without internet; and if you return don't get back reading mails, do some fun stuff! Sponsor some games, test them before that, perhaps even some sports.

You'll seem after one or two weeks concentrating on fun stuff, the number of people you consider to be a PITA decreases a lot, and when you get back to the not so fun stuff, you'll see that this work isn't that bad as it seems so a couple of days ago :)

PS: Sorry amaya, aj, adrian and all the others for not answering your mails, yet. I'll answer them soon, I promise :)

Leaving for a week...

... to check with stockholm, Ganneff and Moray the DebConf-7 venues. Need to catch a train at 06:34 and pick up my ticket at the airport. Hope that works well. I feel a bit unprepared for that country; usually I try at least to learn some common phrases -- actually I once was proud to know what "Thank you!" and "pardon."means in twelve different languages. Including Chinese! Today I just know how to spell my favourite Chinese beer, and that I still hate flying.

Damn, I should have taken the train.
