[DebConf] Burn in the HEL...

... still nice weather - mostly sunny, occasionally a bit rain, but nothing serious. IIUC this trend will continue for a couple of more days, probably even the entire DebConf.

Tried yesterday a new trick to get some sleep - let's get so tired that my roommates snoring doesn't bother me any more. Didn't worked well, since I needed to long to get tired and needed to get up to soon :(

I Was again jogging this morning - well, I did, that I hereby define jogging for myself. After not doing any sports for more than a year, it isn't that easy to get back. Somehow I seemed to expected a bit too much, too. Someone told me that starting jogging is in some way like stopping smoking: As soon as you get past the third day, you are okay...

[LinuxTag] Slides of DebianDay available!

Wolfgang Borgert was so kind to collect the slides of the talks during Debian-Day. You can find them all (well, nearly all) at Thanks for doing that, Wolfgang!

[DebConf] It's always the same...

... I spend many hours reading the papers we got submitted for DebConf-5. Sometimes I proposed smaller changes, but all in all they were quite good. Then I spend several days (and nights) to texify it all to a more or less common layout, so we can print a nice conference proceedings. Although I didn't printed it myself, I continuously checked the output and fixed several errors in typography, and then we gave them to the printshop...

Now I just got my copy of the proceedings. I opened it at a random page, and guess, what I saw? Yes, an error. Seems that I mangled quite many URLs while changing from one LaTeX package to an other :(

And I just realized, that I forgot to a) set up an (empty) errata page and b) add a note about that errata page to the proceedings :(

Some kind of funny, since most of you didn't picked up your copy, yet (or even didn't know there would be something like that).

I started an errata page on our wiki and send a note to the debconf5-event list, and now this hint: Please visit for some information about the proceedings. If you find something, which looks like an error, either add it to the wiki yourself, or - if you are not sure - get in contact with the author of the specific paper or me.

[DebConf] Snoring!

Again I didn't woke up by the early sunrise - actually the sun was just about to rise when I went to sleep - but by the snoring of my roommate. Fascinating, he seems to work better than an alarm clock ;)

Again went jogging, but couldn't find the right rhythm, so it was more like a major walk... spend the rest of the forenoon by waiting for news about a special friend, who needed to pass her final exam this morning. Funny - I spend a big part of yesterdays evening (and several other days) and night to convince her, that she is very well prepared, that she has no reason to be worried and nervous, just to wake up this morning, and be nervous and worried myself ;)

I promised her to keep my fingers crossed for her during her exam, and so I did... must have been funny, looking at me coming back from jogging: Nervous, looking at the watch every few seconds, fingers crossed, trying to eat my breakfast or chatting with only two fingers usable at each hand...

[DebConf] The first morning

I did it! I woke up - interestingly not by the sun getting up to early according to my taste, but by the snoring of one of my roommates... Grmpf.

However: I did it! I stood up, and went jogging. Having not done that for more than a year, I didn't expected much, but I think I did well. Of course the first two kilometer were the worst, but I remembered the big failure I did when I first started jogging a couple of years ago. So I did some small pauses, and all in all jogged around 3-4km. Good, now I only need to continue this.

PS: Am I the only one thinking, that having the table were the breakfast is given away direct in front of my shower's window could easily lead to the next flamewar on -devel, this time with the subject "serious problem with Mr. Schmehl"?
